Hiwassee River Stripers 2012
If you like to catch big fish then the summer run of
stripers on Hiwassee is something that you should look into. Striper fishing on
the Hiwassee is comparable to big game hunting. You may not catch a high number
of fish, but the ones that you will get into are large fish. The average
striper that we take on the Hiwassee is in the 18-25lb range with many
larger fish mixed in. This is a great fight on any type of tackle, but it is unforgettable
if you can get one on the fly. On the Appalachia tailwater we start the chase in June
and fish on through October. On some years we may see fish a littler earlier or
later, this is mainly due to the water temperature in the lower reaches of the
river.
The Scoop, June 6th 2012.
We are seeing and
catching a few stripers in the upper reaches of the Hiwassee River now. I
boated the first striper of the season several weeks back in the middle section
of the river and on Monday while i was working a trip with Bob we hooked up and
boated the first striper out of the upper section of the river. It was a
smaller schoolie around 8-10 lbs., but it’s still a good fish. I really am not sure
what to say about how heavy the run will be this year because that always
changes from one year to the next. I will say that there are some fish in the river
and we have started catching them. Over the next several weeks I will be keeping
an eye out to see how many move up as the season progresses.
If you are interested in fishing for stripers on the Hiwassee
this season book you trip early as our calendars are filling up fast. When you
call in, have a couple of dates in mind that will work best for you. This makes
everything easier especially since we are in the middle of the busy season now
and our guides are constantly out on the water.
My trips for stripers are operated through a couple of
different outfitters on the Hiwassee River. I currently work as a guide for www.southeasternanglers.com and
for www.reelanglingadventures.com
.
I can also be reached directly for booking by calling, 423-208-8602 or by email at Billstranahan@ymail.com
